A photograph of the “Black Diamond,” the payroll car of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company. This car made the rounds of the collieries in Schuylkill County and Northumberland County.. Between payroll days, which were every two weeks, the car was used to transport company officials on inspections tours of the mining operations.
The men pictured along side the car are not identified.
