On 19 March 1913, Minnie [Coleman] Riegle was notified that her husband, Charles G. Riegle was killed in a mine accident at Short Mountain Colliery. At the time, she was living in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, in a small house near where Indian Trail Road joins Old Specktown Road. She had four minor children and no means of supporting them.
With some assistance from family and from the Gratz I. O. O. F. (Odd Fellows) where Charles was a member, she decided to move to Lykens Borough where she could get housekeeping work and wouldn’t have to worry about transportation.
The four children who were left without a father to support them are pictured above:
Hannah Louisa Riegle (1904-1977); Evelyn Beatrice Riegle (1900-1969); Lucy Viola Riegle (1907-1994); Warren Coleman Riegle (1903-1982).
