DAUPHIN COUNTY TOWN NEARLY WIPED OUT AS FIRE SWEEPS 19 BUILDINGS
HARRISBURG, September 5, [1927] (AP) — The town of Fisherville, four miles from Halifax, about fifteen miles north of here, was threatened by destruction by fire today. Volunteer fireman from five towns aided by 150 villagers and a change in the direction of the wind stopped the flames from spreading after nineteen buildings were destroyed.
The fire started in one of a row of barns. When the fire was placed under control, six barns, several smaller buildings, a work shop and a private garage were burned to the ground. Five hogs, a pony and a number of chickens perished.
This was Fisherville‘s most disastrous fire. The firemen were hampered by a lack of water. Chemicals were used in fighting the blaze, although a bucket brigade carried some water from wells.

BUCKET BRIGADE SAVES FISHERVILLE
Fisherville, Pennsylvania, September 6 [1927] — Effective work by a volunteer bucket brigade of 150 residents saved this village from complete destruction when fire broke out here. Today the damage from the blaze, which destroyed nineteen buildings, was estimated as in excess of $30,000. A high wind helped to spread the flames.
Fire companies which were summoned from Harrisburg, Halifax, Elizabethville, Millersburg, and Duncannon were handicapped by lack of water for their pumpers and were required to devote the greater part of their time to preventing further spread of the blaze.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, September 6 [1927] — (INS) — The village of Fisherville near here, today surveyed the damage done by fire which, but for the heroic efforts of a bucket brigade would have wiped out practically every home in the community, authorities said.
Originating in a barn, the flames spread to nineteen other buildings, and every able bodied person in the village responded to the emergency call for fire fighters. Women and children joined the men in passing buckets of water from the source of supply to the flaming buildings. A sudden shift of wind aided in checking the blaze.
