A photograph from the early 1940s of lampman Pat O’Boyle tending to the miner’s lamps at the colliery lamphouse where he worked. At the beginning of the workday, all miners reported to the lamphouse to pick up the lamp that would light their way in the underground passages and at the end of the day, the lamp would be returned by the miner to the lamphouse where it was serviced and ready for the next workman.
