In late December 1906, a brief news story appeared in the Harrisburg Telegraph about a proposal to build a trolley line from Millersburg to Gratz. The story was picked up by the Lykens Standard on January 4, 1907:
TROLLEY TO GRATZ
Within the last few days there has been heard much talk in local financial circles about a project to built a trolley line through the Lykens Valley to connect Millersburg with Gratz and possibly some of the other towns in the upper end. It is said that New York capital is back of the enterprise and that steps will soon be taken to start the preliminary acquisition of rights of way. Surveyors may begin in the Spring it is said.
The route of the line from Millersburg to Gratz is not thickly populated, but it is said that there could be plenty of traffic secured, especially if the line could be run out of Hegins in Schuylkill County.
The article that appeared in the Harrisburg Telegraph, December 28, 1906, contained a bit more information, as noted below:
TROLLEY TO GRATZ
New York People Said to be back of Enterprise in Upper End….
As far as known no local people are interested although, they own the controlling interest in the Williams Valley Street Railway Company, which operates a line from Lykens to Tower City. This is through a district containing over 15,000 people….
