TOWER CITY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF ’22 HOLDS REUNION
Tower City High School class of 1922 has met every five years and frequently in intervening years.
The golden anniversary was celebrated Saturday evening when Mr. and Mrs. James Stephens of Secane entertained at a dinner at the Trade Winds. Five of the original fourteen are deceased — Earl “Scrubby Hand, Joseph Walsh, James Kavanaugh, Robert Krebs, and George Evans.
Green and white, the class colors, and the white rose, class flower, were used in the decorations on the cake and the centerpiece of carnations and roses.
Following dinner, the group went to the home of Merle Knecht, where Tina Jacks and Robert Jacks, through slides, helped relive the years from sixth grade through reunions from 1927 to 1970.
In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Stephens, those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jacks (Tina Gable), Fleetwood; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Baker, Elizabethville; Mr. and Mrs. Paul VanHouten, Lykens; Mrs. William Perry (Erma Hunter), York; and Merle Knecht.
Grace Shadle and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Watkins could not attend because of illness. The former Lillian Kline and husband, [were in] Florida and could not not attend.
Though class spirit cannot be ruler out, the major credit for the togetherness of his class may be attributed to the generous invitations of Erma Perry and Bill Perry to hold reunions at their summer home along the Susquehanna River at Long Level. It was regretted that Bill could not attend because of illness. However, Erma Perry, who suffered a broken writs in a fall during Hurricane Agnes, which demolished their summer home, was able to attend chauffeured by two friends from York. The Perrys have extended an invitation to meet again at the river for the next reunion, date to be set.
