GENE BENDIGO MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING ON GOLF COURSE
Gene Bendigo, of Tower City, piloting his Piper Cub en route from Lehighton to Tower City, made a perfect emergency landing Friday afternoon on the 11th fairway of the Mahoning Valley Golf course in West Penn Township, off Route 443, when the motor of the plane failed.
The motor failure occurred at 5:15 p.m. as he was returning to Tower City after having taken his sister, Mrs. David Moyer, to Lehighton. Mrs. Moyer is the wife of Carbon County Game Protector and resides in Jim Thorpe.
Bendigo saw the golf course below him as the trouble developed. About 100 golfers were on the course at the time, but none were on the 11th fairway.
The plane was towed to a point near the clubhouse. The motor was removed Saturday morning and the trouble found to be due to a blown piston.
