REV. WILLIAM T. WALTON WILL LEAVE FOR CLARK SUMMIT
The Rev. William T. Walton, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1966, has resigned as pastor of that church effective March 3 [1972] and will become pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Clark Summit.
During Pastor Walton’s pastorate in Tower City, he had the governing body of the parish changed in membership makeup to include new people, many of them young. All women of the church were included in the women’s organizations. Men and women were involved in meaningful church and community work. Young people were given church responsibility in programming, leadership and volunteer work. He originated a newsletter featuring pictures, sermons, and parish news.
A renovation program was begun in 1968. After architects plans proved too costly, the congregation launched a do-it-yourself, pay-as-you-go renovation program. The pastor then re-designed the chancel and nave.
Membership of young people has increased through catechetical classes, Luther League groups and youth choir. Membership and giving of adults remains steady.
Pastor Walton served as treasurer and secretary of the Porter-Tower Ministerium, also as president of the Tower City-Porter Rotary Club. He was involved in the Centennial planning and served as chairman of CTDO.
