A colorized newspaper photograph of a musical group that performed at “Sociables” in and around Tremont, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, in the early years of the 20th Century.
The caption on the photo states the following:
THEY MADE MUSIC FOR “SOCIABLES” = That’s a term no longer in good usage, but “Sociables” were important events more than half a century ago. These musicians provided entertainment for many such affairs in Tremont. The two lads in front, both of whom played violin, are Ralph M. Bashore and R. Guy Bashore. Rear, left to right, Ray Hoffman, violinst; Katie Himmelberger, pianist; Robert Kopp, cornetist. The photo was loaned, with others, to the Press Herald, by Mrs. Mary [Leininger] Mease.
