A photograph taken about 1900 of the interior of a stocking factory in Tremont, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The building was located on Laurel Street, between the Pennsylvania Power and Light power plant and the Tremont laundry. About 1925, the building was destroyed by fire.
The factory was built by a man named Romberger and operated by him for three years. He then sold it to brothers John Delaney and Thomas Delaney.
The women working in this factory were paid two & one-half cents per dozen on the stockings they made and the men were paid $2.50 per week, for a six day work week.
Those pictured in the photo are not specifically identified but those familiar with the factory and who worked there indicated the following could be pictured: Florence Kreis; Catherine Reedy; Carrie Kopp; Anna Schaeffer; Mabel Seiger; Laura [Imschweiler] Kreis; Katie Minnich; Mayme Zerbe; Mrs. Claude Hutchinson; Monroe Beagley; John Devaney; Thomas Devaney; William Kochler; Thomas Good.
