An undated photo post card view of the trolley bridge over the railroad tracks at Wiconisco, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
Although the card indicates that the location of the bridge was at Williamstown, this is incorrect.
According to Gene D. Gordon who published a similar photograph in his book, Little Railways of the Lykens Valley, page 7, the photograph is from about 1901. This trolley was built by Jackson and Sharp and shipped to the street railway company on 6 July 1899. The car was “No. 8” and it along with its sister car “No. 7” were originally named “Columbia” and “Mayflower.”
According to Louisa [Wingert] Hartman (1878-1967), of Williamstown, Dauphin County, “We [Louisa and her children] were stranded on this bridge about 1907 when the car jumped the track.” The card shown here was scanned from one that was mounted in a photo album kept by Louisa, along with the comment about the derailment.
