An undated snapshot photo of Walter A. Evitts (1884-1965), a native of Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The picture was probably taken some time in the 1910s or early 1920s when Walter operated a construction business in Philadelphia and Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and probably shows a work tent set up at a construction site.
Walter A. Evitts died on August 19, 1965. His obituary appeared in a Lykens Valley newspaper at the time of his death:
WALTER A. EVITTS
Walter A. Evitts, of 24 W. Greenwood Ave., Lansdowne, died Thursday in Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia.
He was the husband of the late Mabel [Riegle] Evitts.
Mr. Evitts was a retired builder. was born in Dauphin County, and had lived in Lansdowne more than 30 years. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Drexel Hill.
His survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Paul Nichols of Lansdowne; a son, Albert Evitts of Secane; two sisters, Mrs. George Hand of Florida and Mrs. Beulah Travitz of Elizabethville; one brother, Henry Evitts of Philadelphia, and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the M. F. Williams Funeral Home, Baltimore and Summit Avenues, Clifton Heights. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery in Upper Darby.
