RAILROAD WORKER VICTIM OF TRAIN-AUTO ACCIDENT
William F. Snyder, 58 year old Pennsylvania Railroad trackman was the victim of an accident which occurred while he was engaged in cleaning snow from the platform at the Millersburg passenger station, Friday morning.
According to advices, Mr. Paul Yoder, Millersburg railroad agent was driving his car down the grade on West Center Street when the car skidded and came to a stop on the railroad tracks, in the path of a northbound freight train.
Mr. Yoder escaped from the automobile just before it was hit by the locomotive. The car was hurled against a baggage truck which struck and pinned Mr. Snyder against a concrete wall.
Dauphin County Coroner Roberts stated Mr. Snyder’s death was caused by a crushed chest and internal injuries.
Mr. Snyder was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Snyder and was a native of Loyalton. His wife, Mrs. Helen [Wert] Snyder preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and the Loyal Order of Moose lodge of Millersburg. He had been a railroad employee 31 years.
Survivors are one son, William R. Snyder Jr. of Millersburg; and five daughters, Mrs. Kimber Bair, Harrisburg; Mrs. Robert E. Snyder, Halifax R.D.; Mrs. Merrill Marks and Mrs. William Dodson, both of Millersburg R.D., and Mrs. Henry Harner of Millersburg.
Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Eldred Buffington, Elizabethville, and Mrs. Mark Weaver of Elysburg, and twelve grandchildren.
Services were held from the Sterner Funeral Home, Millersburg, at 2 o’clock, Monday afternoon. Rev. J. W. Emerick, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiated and interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville.
