William S. Engle (1874-1938) – Found Dead in Snow

WILLIAM S. ENGLE

Funeral services for William S. Engle, well known resident of Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, were held in the Lutheran Church at Malta, Saturday afternoon.  Rev. Walter E. Wagner, officiated and interment was made in the Malta Cemetery.

Mr. Engle, it was stated, left the house last Wednesday afternoon, to secure the mail from the rural mail box, located along the main highway some distance from his home.  Some time later his lifeless body was found along the snow-covered highway about a quarter of a mile from his home by Mr. Mark Adams, a teacher in the consolidated school at Dalmatia.

Dr. Henry F. Hottenstein of Millersburg, who was summoned, stated that Mr. Engle’s death resulted from a heart condition.

Mr. Engle was a native of the Mandata community and was a member of the Malta Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Carlos Bordner of Millersburg; three sons, Irvin S. Engle of near Paxton; Kay L. Engle of Dalmatia; and William Engle Jr., of Altoona; and two sisters, Mrs. Penro Daniel of Elizabethville R.D. and Mrs. John Shaffer of Herndon.
