An undated photograph of Keiter’s Drug Store at 101 West Market Street (or 106 West Market Street), Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The following history of the business was presented in the Williamstown Sesquicentennial Book, 1826-1926:
The start of the first drug store in town is not clear. Reports are that a medical doctor was the first owner, but the name and dates cannot be recalled. This doctor sold the Tommy Davis and Mike Meehan. The latter operated the pharmacy until 1932. John Keiter, from Tower City, bought the business and operated it as a pharmacy until 1939 when he turned the business over to a brother Blair Keiter, who operated it as a cut-rate drug store until the end of 1943 when he joined the Air Force.
Charles Keiter bought the business and being a registered pharmacist opened the pharmacy again. The store was located at 101 West Market Street until 1966, when Keiter’s moved across the street to 106 West Market Street. Here they remained until 1970, when Mr. Keiter retired after 27 years of service. He sold the place of business, which is now [1976] occupied by Brenda Jobe‘s Beauty Salon.
