Movie posters for the X-Rated films that were shown in July 1981, at the Temple Drive-In Theatre, located on the north side of Route 209 between Tower City, Schuylkill County, and Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The above ad appeared in the Pottsville Republican, July 2, 1981. It described what the Temple Drive-In Theatre had become – a purveyor of X-rated porn films.
The soft-porn films that were shown at this outdoor theatre were part of the “sexual revolution” that began to take place in the 1960s. Other drive-in theatres in the area, also succumbed to the trend. The drive-in in Gratz, the drive-in in Halifax, and the indoor theatre in Millersburg, all operated by Marvin Troutman under the name Martro Theatres, provided nothing but this fare. It was unfortunate though for the residents of the Lykens Valley that in order to see a non-X-rated film they had to travel a good distance from their homes – or stay at home and watch a movie on TV.
In bold-face type, the Temple Drive-in claimed it had “The Best in Adult Films! Rated X.”
Films shown during the week were:
- Inside Seka
- Sweetheart
- The Budding of Erie
- Infidel
- Gang That Could
- College Girls
- Slip of the Tongue
