A undated photograph of the United Methodist Church of Williamtown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The following historical information came with the photo.
In 1866, Rev. John M. Wheeler, Methodist preacher stationed in Lykens, began preaching services on Sunday afternoons in the little red school house in Williamstown, then located on West Market Street.
The first Sunday School session was conducted in the fall of 1867 in the school house, later all services were moved to the Seybert Church. In 1872 Williamstown and Tower City were made a circuit with Rev. S. G. Grove appointed as preacher. One year later the towns became separate charges. Rev. H. White was appointed and served here three years. During his tenure a group left the church and started a Primitive Methodist Church.
With B. A. Barnes work for a new church began in earnest May 25, 1912. The new edifice was dedicated by Bishop Joseph F. Berry. During the pastorate of Rev. Shalkop a Sunday School room was added, dedicated in 1927. Extensive improvements have been added recently. Rev. Charles A. Bailey is current pastor.
