LOYALTON BOY BITTEN BY SNAKE DIED SATURDAY
Wilmer Hassinger, age 17, son of Jacob Hassinger of Loyalton, died early Saturday evening at his parents home, after having been bitten by a rattlesnake on Tuesday of last week.
He is survived by his father, two brothers and one sister: Homer Hassinger and Lester Hassinger, and Dorothy Hassinger, all at home.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 o’clock from the home, west of Loyalton and interment was made in the St. John’s Cemetery near Berrysburg after services had been conducted in the Evangelical Church at Loyalton. Rev. C. W. Hoerner, Williamstown, pastor of the church and Rev. R. E. Kramer, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated.
The young man, accompanied by his father were fishing in the Rattling Creek near Lykens last Tuesday. The son was a short distance from his father who came to his aid when he called for help. The father saw the snake had bitten his son in the left leg near the ankle. He applied a tourniquet to stop the circulation of blood in the limb and ruched him to the office of a Lykens physician who expressed hope for the young man’s recovery. On Friday his condition was improved but the following day his condition became critical and he passed away Saturday evening about 7:30 o’clock.
