MILLERSBURG MAN KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE
MILLERSBURG, 11 August 1944 — Staff Sgt. Ernest N. Davidson, of Millersburg, was killed in action on 15 July 1944, in France, according to a telegram from the War Department received by his wife, Mrs. Mary [Sheetz] Davidson, residing at Halifax R. D. 2.
Sergeant Davidson entered the Army on 14 June 1941 and received basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Later he was sent with 2nd Cavalry to Luke Field, Tempe, Arizona. In June 1942 he was advanced from private first class to sergeant and sent to Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Three months later he was advanced to staff sergeant and served as supply sergeant for Company E, 330th Infantry.
Sent overseas in April 1943, he was stationed in England two months and on 6 July his wife received word that he was in France. He was 28 years old and had been employed as a routeman by the Allencrest Bakery in Millersburg.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by his father, Harry L. Davidson; a sister, Mrs. LeRoy Reed, both of Milroy, and four brothers, Merrill Davidson, in the Navy; Gilbert Davidson, Pittsburgh; William Davidson, Harrisburg; and James Davidson, Williamsport.

POSTHUMOUS AWARDS FOR SOLDIER
The Purple Heart Medal and the Presidential Citation, awarded posthumously to her husband, Staff Sergeant Ernest Davidson, were received this week by Mrs. Davidson, Halifax R. D. 2. Sergeant Davidson died 15 July in France, from battle wounds.
He had entered the army in June 1941 and received his training at Fort Riley, Kansas, Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky, and Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He was sent overseas last April.
Survivors in addition to his widow, are his father, Harry L. Davidson, of Milroy, Pennsylvania, one sister and four brothers.
