LENKERVILLE SOLDIER REPORTED KILLED
Mr. and Mrs. Earl G. Bordner of Lenkerville, have been advised by the War Department that their son, Sergeant Freeman E. Bordner, 26, has been reported killed in action, 5 March 1945
The message did not state where his death occurred.
Sergeant Bordner, who was graduated from the Millersburg High School, class of 1936, entered the army 14 June 1941 and had been overseas since September 1944.
Survivors are his parents, and a brother William H. Bordner, who was wounded in action while serving with the army, and recently received an honorable discharge.
Sgt. Bordner’;s father served with the American Army in France, during World War I.

SERGEANT KILLED WHILE SERVING WITH TANK UNIT
Sgt. Freeman E. Bordman was killed in action, 5 March 1945, in the European theatre of operations, the War Department has notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl G. Bordner, Millersburg.
Attached to a tank battalion, Sergeant Bordner was wounded in action some time prior to receiving his fatal wounds, and had written his parents that he was sending the Purple Heart home that had been awarded to him.
The 26-year old sergeant entered the Army 14 June 1941 and trained with the cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas. Later his outfit became mechanized and he received further training at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, Fort Benning and Fort Meyers, Virginia. He had been overseas since September.
He was born in Millersburg while his father was in France serving in World War I, and named after his father’s officer, Captain Freeman, who died of wounds in France.
A graduate of Millersburg High School, class of 1938, he was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Millersburg.
Surviving in addition to his parents, is a brother, William H. Freeman, who was wounded in action and has received a medical discharge from the Army.
